Abstract
A trombose venosa profunda (TVP) e a embolia pulmonar (EP), associados ou não, caracterizam o tromboembolismo venoso (TEV), condição que afeta aproximadamente 1 em cada 1000 pacientes por ano, causa mais de 100.000 mortes por ano nos EUA e é a causa de óbito evitável mais comum em pacientes hospitalizados nos EUA.
