To increase the Health Sciences Journal's internationalization, starting in 2024, all articles will be published only in English. The English version of the manuscript must have its quality standards accepted by the scientific editorial board.

Authors will have two submission options:

Submit the manuscript in English, preferably American, including the title page, body of the manuscript, tables, and figures. Proof of ethical approval can be sent in the native language.

• If the authors are not native English speakers, they must send a supporting document of professional translation (translation certificate).
• Documents with poor-quality English translations may be returned before being sent to the peer-review process.
• Documents submitted for translation using generic online tools (such as Google® Translator) are easily identified and will be returned.
• Sending the submission in English is the most recommended way of publishing in the HSJ.

Submit the manuscript in Portuguese, including the title page, body of the manuscript, tables, and figures.

• The manuscript will go through the stages of peer review. If approved for publication by the Responsible Editor, it will be forwarded to the Copyediting stage, where corrections and standardizations will be made in the scientific language.
• The revised Copyediting file approved by the authors will be sent back to them to translate into English (including the title page, main text, figures, and tables).
• Proof of ethical approval does not require translation.
• The deadline for returning the translated material is 15 running days.
• Exceptions in publishing articles in Portuguese may apply in translation and validation of questionnaires, and may be subjected to the analysis of the Editorial Board.

The authors are requested to be very careful in presenting texts in English. The scientific literary style is different from lay writing, and several points must be noted:

• Avoid the passive voice.
• Avoid long sentences. If possible, break a long sentence into two or three.
• Avoid non-English jargon.
• Figure content must be translated.

The services of individual professional translators with experience in scientific language or specialized companies can be requested. The complementary use of grammar correction software (Grammarly) or artificial intelligence applications (Trinka) is encouraged.
