Abstract
RESUMO
Objetivo: Estabelecer o perfil sócio- cultural e a utilização dos medicamentos genéricos por idosos do Bairro Avenida no município de Itajubá, Minas Gerais. Materiais e métodos: Partindo da população de 584 indivíduos, o grau de confiança foi de 95% e a proporção p foi de 0, 54, chegando-se a amostragem de 232 sujeitos, finalizando com 203 idosos. Foi aplicado o TCLE e em seguida um questionário com 10 perguntas acerca dos genéricos. Os dados foram submetidos a análise quantitativa e os resultados apresentados em forma de gráficos. Resultados: 95% dos entrevistados relataram já ter ouvido falar alguma vez sobre os genéricos, 89% atribuíram-lhes algum conceito e 32% o definiram como sendo ‘aquele que possui menor preço’. 30% relatou ter conhecimento dos genéricos através das farmácias e seus funcionários e 82% dos entrevistados afirmaram usar genérico. 86% acreditam na eficácia do medicamento genérico e 71% substitui o medicamento de referência pelo genérico. Sobre a prescrição médica, 58% dos entrevistados afirmaram que seus médicos já prescreveram genéricos. Conclusão: não há real conhecimento do conceito dos medicamentos genéricos, e assim, a população perde o direito de escolha, baseando-se somente nas influencias socioculturais, das mídias e econômicas. Fica evidente a importância de formular uma cartilha que esteja disponível a toda a população e que traga no seu conteúdo informações a respeito de todos os processos do medicamento genérico, seus riscos e benefícios de forma clara e transparente.

ABSTRACT
Objective: To establish the socio-cultural profile and the use of generic drugs by the elderly in Avenida district in the city of Itajubá, Minas Gerais. Methods: From the population of 584 individuals, the confidence level was 95% and the p ratio was 0.54, reaching the sample of 232 subjects, with 203 seniors at the end of the research. The Consent Term and then a questionnaire with 10 questions about the generic medicine was applied. Data was analyzed and the results were showed in graphics. Results: 95% of the seniors had already heard about generics medicine, 89% gave them some concept and 32% defined them as 'the ones with the lowest price'. 30% reported having knowledge of generic medicine through the drugstores and their sale assistants and 82% of seniors answered they use generic medicine. 86% believe in the effectiveness of generic remedy and 71% replace the brand drug for the generic. On medical prescription, 58% of seniors stated their doctors have already prescribed generic medicine. Conclusion: there is no real knowledge of the concept of generic medicine, and because of this, the population may lose the right to choose, based only on sociocultural mediatic and economic influences. It is important to consider the creation of a little manual to be available to the entire population in a way to bring in information regarding all processes of the generic medicine, its risks and benefits in a clear and clarified way.
