Sexual dysfunction during pregnancy and its relationship with obstetric variables
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: to analyze the relationship between the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and obstetric variables related to the gestational period. Methods: Observational, cross-sectional, single-center study, with primary data collection performed with 60 pregnant women. The instruments used were a sociodemographic questionnaire and the FSFI. The pregnant women were grouped into two groups according to the female sexual function score (normal or with dysfunction) according to a pre-established cutoff point. Maternal age, gestational age, body mass index (BMI) and parity were analyzed, as well as the means of each domain of the FSFI. Results: The prevalence of sexual dysfunction was 40%. In the group with sexual dysfunction, there was a higher average of maternal age (22.9 ± 3.3 vs 25.5 ± 4.3 years; p = 0.011), gestational age (25 ± 7.2 vs 29.7 ± 7 , 8 weeks; p = 0.017) and BMI (26 ± 3.5 vs 29.9 ± 3.6 Kg / m2; p <0.001). A statistically significant difference was observed for all FSFI domains between the groups with and without dysfunction. Conclusion: There was a relationship between obstetric factors and the presence of sexual dysfunction. The high prevalence of sexual dysfunction in this period and the identification of related factors calls attention to the need for public policies of attention focused on female sexual health, emphasizing the gestational period to guarantee a greater and better quality of life for this public.
