Abstract
Objective: Evaluate the quality of life (QoL) of doctors who work in surgical centers of the Brazilian city of Mossoró, RN. Methods: a cross-sectional epidemiological study was carried out using questionnaires among professionals, from November 2018 to June 2019 in four hospitals. For the characterization of the studied population, the survey consisted of biodemographic data with information about the participant, the characteristics of work, and the abbreviated World Health Organization Quality of Life questionnaire (score from 0 to 100). Results: 100 physicians from different specialties participated in the study. The mean age was 39.6 ± 10.7 years. The participatants had a good QoL for all domains (general score = 75 ± 14.7). Older age, more time since graduation, and more children for the physical, psychological and environment domains were related to higher QoL. Better working conditions were associated with higher scores in the social and environmental domains. A higher number of weekly hours on duty correlated to worse QoL rates for the general, psychological, social and environmental domains. Physical activity was associated with better scores in the general, physical, social and environmental domains. Conclusion: Although most professionals have good QoL, some conditions were associated to lower scores, such as younger age, high workload, worse working conditions, and a lack of physical activity.
